Wonderful experience! So happy we took this tour, such a beautiful place! The monasteries we visited were beautiful inside and out. Getting into the monasteries was tough at times with many steep stairs/pathways but well worth the effort. Chris, our tour guide, was very nice and personable. There was time to buy food right before and after the monastery tours.
We paid extra for first class seats which were in a private compartment seating six. There were four people including us on the way there. Met someone from Athens and the Netherlands. On the way back, we got the entire compartment to ourselves.

we visited Meteora's monasteries with this tour. Everything was perfect, we were lucky as the 7:20 train from Athens arrived on time in Kalambaka, where the buses were already waiting to take us to the first short stop to get some food before starting the real tour. The guide was very nice and knowledgeable, she provided also some good tips to visit the places as well as plenty of historical information. The time dedicated to each monastery is between 45 and 60 min, hence more than enough to enjoy the visits and to take pictures. The building are true masterpieces, and the panorama and views are unforgettable. For women, remember to bring a long skirt as it is required to enter the monasteries, although some of them may have some spare foulards to be used for the visits. Remember also to bring some water/food as in case of rush the time dedicated to additional stops could be very limited.

This trip was a long day but completely worth it! The train was comfortable and travelled through some beautiful scenery and meeting Ria (apologies if this is spelt incorrectly!) at the station was quick and easy!
We stopped first in the main square of Kalabaka at a cafe qhich is good for a bathroom break and good snacks / food should you wish but absolutely no pressure to buy. You stop there at the end so good for any purchases for the train back too. There is also a nearby supermarket and many good restaurants which Ria will show you.
After this stop then onto the first monastery. Be advised that some monasteries have A LOT of steps / steep slopes to get to them so something to keep in mind.
On our trip we visited St Nicholas, Varlaam and the nunnery at St Stephan - All of which are breathtaking....both inside and the views outside.
Ria was so knowledgeable and friendly, you were always interested to hear the next pieces of information. It was intriguing to learn how the first monks got to the monasteries, how they built them and especially how they got up / down!
Ideally, you would want to spend at least a couple of days in the area to fully explore (I'm sure they'd have a trip for that too!) but if one day is all the time you have then I cannot recommend this trip enough! I would certainly book again.

Amazing experience - great guide. Very funny and so informative. Took the train ride to the l Omarion that was provided in the email. The host/guide was there with my name and greeted me. I didn’t bring any Euro, the guide provide me some so that I can visit inside the monasteries (paid him back with tip from ATM). Wonderful experience. And I’m a huge GOT fan, so this was everything to me.

I did a day tour from Athens with Meteora Thrones and loved it. I ended up being the only customer booked for that day, and the guide made it really personal. I shopped around at a number of different tour companies and also looked into simply buying my own train ticket and then doing a tour from Meteora, but this was the cheapest option. Even though the train ride is long (4 hours each way in one day), it was well worth it. The Meteora monasteries are amazing, and Meteora Thrones knows all the best places to stop for photos and knows the perfect amount of time to give you for each monastery. Can't recommend it enough!

The tour of Meteora was fantastic and exceeded my expectations. The beauty of the landscape and the uniqueness of the architecture was a highlight.
Christos imparted his extensive historical and archaeological knowledge along the journey, leaving us at each of the three monasteries to explore on our own. Each monastery had very interesting artifacts displayed in their museums and the grounds were so picturesque. Our guide brought us to optimal stops in order to get the best views for picture taking.
In summary, a fascinating and educational day in great comfort and company.

We went in April when the temperature was still cool. Summer would make all the walking a little more difficult. Spending time with Chris was like spending time with a friend. He patiently shared with us the history and details of Meteora and its monasteries. Clearly Chris loves his job and every knows him. Our friends who have been to Meteora complimented us on the pictures that my wife shared on Facebook. Chris is an excellent photographer (very important to my wife) and knows all of the places. I highly recommend Chris and this tour. Book early so you can reserve 1st class train tickets since these seats are limited.

A stunning place if you go to Greece you should visit it. Our tour guide provided us a lot of information about the area, I learned a lot from him. Also, he has a funny way to give information so you don't feel bored. The tour was perfectly organized with enough time to visit each place, take pictures, and also spend some time there (not only for pictures). I didn't have the feeling that we are running as most of the tours are. We visited 2 monasteries and have several places for wonderful pictures. I was traveling alone and our tour guide was so kind and took me a lot of nice pictures.
The positive side, unlike several other websites, they have a phone number that you can call and have all the information you need, the person working there helped me to get my ticket last minute while it was impossible to do it directly online, he opened a place form me and after 5 minutes I booked my tour and get an email with all information (how to go there, what to bring, etc.).
Also, I went just after COVID 19 and it was well organized with a small group, they also were willing to provide us masques, they have hand sanitizer in the bus, so don't worry.
I recommend this tour

Wonderful day trip! Everything was super well organised and very easy. We did a private day trip with three of us. Clear communication and great customer service - they allowed us to change the day when our plans changed with no fuss.
The train was great. The tickets are sent to your mobile so no hassle of printing something. The train itself was very clean, relaxing and had good facilities including a cafe car and plugs for electronics. The scenery was great as well, but take a book because it is four hours each way!
The trip itself around Meteora was brilliant. Really helpful guide who told us lots of interesting things. We were allowed to go around the monasteries on our own which I definitely preferred instead of being with the guide all the time. We saw three monasteries inside - Great Meteora, St. Stephen and one more I can't remember - and the others from various viewpoints. Pleeeenty of photo opportunities! St Stephen the nunnery was my favourite, really charming and well taken care of with beautiful gardens. But they are all pretty spectacular!
Highly recommended.

An early departure from Athens. 0720 train. There are food/coffee shops at the station. The tickets have a QR code so no need to print. The train is comfortable if a little slow.
The train was fairly slow and waited for another train from Thessaloniki which made us a little late.
Collected from the station with a sign with my name as promised. Before heading to the UNESCO heritage site there is a quick stop, but only a snack place. The coffee was fine.
The monasteries and views and stunning. They are fairly quiet at the moment with no queues and only a small number of visitors. So if you’re in Athens, I think it’s a perfect time to visit.
We stopped at three monasteries which is Euros3 each. I read the info as in total, but we stopped at an ATM. There are small snack places and gift shops at some of the places. For drinks and ice creams and souvenirs. But nowhere to eat until you return to Kalabaka so take provisions.
Excellent driver and guide. Very friendly and helped us enjoy the tour
Really glad I made the trip.

Will we have a guided tour of the monasteries or dropped off and we do the tour on our own. Also, does the tour include the hermit caves of Badovas. On the dress requirements can women wear long pants instead of a long skirt?

I have booked the one-day train tour to Meteora. I need to know how much walking/climbing are we supposed to do in order to visit some of the monasteries inside? Apparently they only let us see them from the bus, from the distance, and the visits themselves are on our own. How much effort does this imply?

When we were taking the tour we were lucky to be able to see 3 of them inside, as the train had arrived perfectly on time. The rest of the monasteries we could see from the bus or took a short stop. The bus comes right to the door of the monasteries. No need to walk for a long distance to reach them or climb. You visit on your own, so depends on you how much walking you can afford. On average about 30-45 min for each should be enough. There is however one exception, the first monastery has a lot of steps and you need to climb for about 20-30 minutes to reach it, but it's worth the effort. You can buy a perfect and unique honey there inside and the local wine.

Thank you, l am aware but unfortunayely, l only have a few hours there it will take 5 hours all the way from Athene to Meteora so it is impossible to see all, the most 2 l think if l were to go in. If l am doing DIY,can any one suggest 1 or 2 monastories that are eassy accessable with public transport. We are planning to take a taxi if time is limited.
