Levada do Rabacal 25 Fountains Walk and Jeep Tour
US$52,74
Overview
Hike the 25 Fountains (Fontes) Levada trail from Rabaçal, and walk through a landscape of waterfalls, pools, and trees set high in the Madeira mountains. After a morning of hiking, take a trip to Ribeira Brava, Cabo Girao, and Camara de Lobos, traveling in an open-top Jeep for the best possible views of Madeira's back roads and rugged mountain scenery.
What to Expect
Meet a driver at your hotel in Funchal for the drive to Rabaçal, the starting point for the 25 Fountains Levada trail, which passes a long series of waterfalls and pools. Listen for the sound of native birds as you walk through stands of dense trees.

Following the hike, purchase a Madeiran lunch in a nearby restaurant and then go off-roading to Ribeira Brava, an historic community flanked by steep valleys. From there, drive to the summit of the 1,900-foot (580-meter) Cabo Girao, with a glass-floored balcony and spectacular views across Camara de Lobos and Funchal Bay. Make a final stop at the fishing village of Camara de Lobos, a great place to get a glimpse of traditional life, and finish the day with drop-off at your original departure point.

Too Popular!

This was a very pleasant walk 20 yrs. ago, but now there are hundreds of people on the narrow paths which spoils it.

Superb trip, highly recommended

We thoroughly enjoyed this trip yesterday with our guide Rubin and 6 other people. The walk to the '25 fontes' starts from an off road track, so the first section including the long tunnel is very quiet. Then another path joins from a busier car...More

This is certainly not an easy walk in terms of the terrain. Much of it is along the maintenance track beside the levada which is narrow and raised above ground level. The worst part is the uneven, rocky surface which... More
