What to expect
  • Half-Day Tour (5 Hours): Choose the half-day tour and get picked-up at your hotel or another designated meeting point in the center of Parma to commence this fun food-themed tour of the region. If you're driving your own car, pick up your guide in Parma and begin the tour of northern Italian deliciousness in Emilia Romagna. The first stop is at a diary to sample some of the famed Parmesan (or Parmigiano) cheese. Often referred to as the 'King of Cheese,' Parmesan is aged for 12, 18 or 24 months and has a slightly different taste for each age. Learn about the process of making this amazing cheese and, of course, try some yourself. Next up: stop by a producer of prosciutto. In Parma, this cured ham is famed the world over. Learn about the process of curing prosciutto and sample some of the melt-on-your palate pork. After, visit the medieval town of Torrechiara for a photo op in front of the imposing 15th-century castle. Move on to lunch in a wine cellar in Parma where you'll get the chance to munch on cured meats, locally made cheeses and homemade cakes. Wash it all down with a glass of Malvasia or Lambrusco, a lovely sparkling red wine from the region. When you're done, head back to Parma or Bologna where the tour ends by being dropped off at your hotel or your own designated drop off point. Full-Day Tour (7 Hours): Follow the tour above as part of your morning itinerary. Then, post lunch, go try some authentic balsamic vinegar in Modena and Reggio Emilia, handcrafted by masters whose techniques go back to the Middle Ages. Learn how balsamic is made and taste some of it, as the guide instructs on what makes excellent balsamic vinegar. In the afternoon, return to Parma or Bologna (depending on option selected), where your tour concludes. Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required.

Great tour of the Modena and Parma area!
Jul 2021
Very happy with our quick 2 day get away to Modena, Parma and everything in between. Food Valley Travel help take care of all the logistics for us, and more when we seem to miss our train stop and get us back on track. They didn't miss a beat and we enjoyed having that comfort that it would be all smooth and enjoyable. Great tour with Monica and driving service from Fabio - definitely happy we went this route and booked directly with Food Valley Travel

Excellent tour with an excellent tour guide (Monica)
Jul 2021
I was very happy with our experience with Monica. She was very kind with us all the way, it was a very pleasant tour overall. She had amazing access to both the cheese and prosciuto facilities, made us feel like insiders. I strongly recommend for anyone visiting Parma.

Amazing experience
Jul 2021 • Solo
We were extrememy positively surprised by this experience and our guide Monica was mostly the reason why! She was really knowledgeable about Parmigianno and prosciutto production, and was really friendly and easy to talk with!
The tour went great and the mention « private » is not a false advertising. We were alone during the tour with our guide which allow to ask as many questions you want and go at you own pace. And Monica is always here to provide you the detailed answers!
The lunch was also a very good experience, one of the best meal we had in Italy.
Finally the Balsamica Vinegar visit went very well with Alessandra who is really passionated and willing to explain as best as she can her passion!
Highly recommanded, you can go closed eyes :)

Fantastic cheese and balsamic vinegar tour!
Dec 2019 • Family
Wonderful! A little beyond our price range so we were nervous, but worth every penny. Alice is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and we learned a ton. Our group ranged in age from 15 to 75 and everyone loved it. What a perfect way to learn about the Parma culture, region, and delicacies. Better than any of the other excursions/tours we did in different cities. Recommend highly!!

Interesting, Educational and Authentic Food Day
Aug 2019
Our party of 5 did the full day tour. We started off at a cheese farm, which for us was the highlight of the day. It was highly educational but also fun. The next stop was at a Parma ham factory. Which was again educational but fun. We then had a fabulous lunch at a Michelin rated restaurant. The day ended tasting balsamic vinegar at a small family farm, with a great experience by Alessandro, who was the son of the family running the business. Our tour guide Elena made the day a fun experience. We enjoyed talking to her about the region, and about each place we experienced. I would highly recommend this for foodies, but even if you are not a foodie I think you would enjoy it.

Authentic Italian experience
Aug 2019
This was one of our favorite tours in Italy. This was a chance to see how Parmesan cheese, Parma ham and balsamic vinegar are made. The farmers in this part of Italy take a lot of pride in producing these traditional products and it's very interesting to see how they are made.

The best part of the tour was our tour guide, Giorgia. She was SO friendly, very knowledgeable about everything we saw on our tour, great sense of humor and overall just a pleasure to be with.

The factories are interesting. It's great to see how cheese is made, ham is cured and balsamic vinegar is really made!

Awesome food tour
Jul 2019 • Family
We took the food tour from Parma. We got to visit the factories for Parmesan, prosciutto, balsamic vinegar, and had a great meal at a beautiful old mill restaurant. Monica our tour guide was excellent. She spoke perfect English and was able to answer every question about the factories and give us insight into Italian life. I totally recommend the tour and Monica as the tour guide. FYI download WhatsApp. It seems to be the way to communicate with foreign phones. Ciao!

Parma Tour guided by Monica
May 2019 • Couples
Truly a great experience for those who are curious about Italian food and wine culture, especially given the simplicity of Italian food. We truly felt we had a much deeper understanding behind the art of great cheesemaking.

Our guide (Monica) was informative, to-the-point, and conversational. She was flexible when we had questions to ask, and she had insightful answers that led to deeper questions, which she could still answer. She was also very mindful about keeping the tour areas clean, to a point where she had to tell off other tour groups how to behave.

Hands down, five stars out of five.

A food and wine experience beyond expectations!! (and reasonably priced)
May 2019
Alice Rossi is an amazing, informative and personal tour guide, who quickly becomes a friend sharing her special town and its treasures. She created a personal tour of a Parma ham factory, local Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese factory, balsamic vinegar production at an excellent winery/vinegar producer, topped off by lunch at a very local restaurant.
My daughter had gone on a tour with Alice several years ago, with the same amazing experience.
Not to be missed if you enjoy food and wine, and are delighted by learning about its production.
Alice is quite remarkable!!

Very insightful view into the King of Cheeses and Prosciuto di Parma
May 2019 • Friends
Monica, our guide, was a delight. We arranged a half day tour where we drove. It ended up that she drove her own car and we followed, but that wasn't a problem. We were in the production facilities of both places (Parmegiano Reggiano and Prosciutto di Parma) and learned a great deal through Monica's help and observation on how each is created. We highly recommend.
