  • Enjoy guaranteed admission to the basilica’s soaring dome
  • Explore the papal crypt, which most tour groups miss
  • See the church’s famous masterpieces, including Michelangelo’s Pietà
What to Expect
Meet your guide at a convenient location just outside of St. Peter’s Square. In order to beat the crowds, and make the most of this world-famous landmark before long lines form, the tour kicks off in the early morning. See the Swiss Guard in St. Peter’s Square before entering the basilica. With just a small group for company, you’re promised an intimate way of discovering the church. Your first stop is the basilica’s soaring dome, to which you have guaranteed admission. Board an elevator to its first viewing platform before walking up several hundred stairs to its summit, which offers panoramic views overlooking the city. Next, you’ll return to ground level and will discover some of the artistic masterpieces hidden within the church, including Bernini’s bronze altar and Michelangelo’s Pietà. Learn more of the stories and history behind St. Peter's Basilica from your guide. Your final stop is the papal crypt—a part of the landmark most visitors don’t see. Descend into its silent depths and discover some of its most significant tombs before the tour concludes.

Although we did not see the crypt due to a last minute schedule change by the Vatican, this experience was terrific! Guide was so knowledgeable and the view from the dome was unbelievable. While you don’t climb the entire staircase, there’s still about 200 steps in a narrow

Hello mkcbrock, We are so glad to know that you had a terrific time with us in the Vatican, and that the Dome climb was so spectacular for you! It is certainly a shame that the Vatican's schedule changes restricted access to the crypts, but thankfully we were able to provide you with a worthwhile experience regardless. Thanks again for joining us, and for your kind review. Warmest regards, The Walks Team

This is a great tour! We learned so much, saw parts of St. Peter's that you normally wouldn't see and had a great tour guide. The climb to the dome is incredible but can be a little scary at times so prepare yourself. It's more than worth it once you see the view from the top
