Highlights
  • Explore Venice at your own pace with an independent day trip
  • Travel from Rome to Venice via high-speed train
  • Utilize a Vaporetto pass to move through the city with ease
  • Skip-the-line with premium access tickets to St. Mark’s Basilica
What to expect
  • Before departing Rome on your day trip to Venice, meet a tour host to receive your round-trip ticket for the high-speed train, your vaporetto pass for Venice’s water taxi network and your skip-the-line ticket for St Mark’s Basilica. Then head to the train station for the 3.5-hour journey north. When you arrive in Venice, meet a second tour host, who will give you a map and provide tips about what to see and do. Then you’re on your own to explore the city independently. Make your way through the tangled web of campos (squares), calli (narrow streets) and bridges, soaking up the romantic and old-world ambience for which the city is so beloved. Go in search of waterfront shops and restaurants along Riva degli Schiavoni, pose on the Bridge of Sighs, admire the Gothic Doge’s Palace or visit St Mark’s Square. Make sure to use your skip-the-line ticket at St Mark’s Basilica to admire its gilded mosaics and marble floors, and then perhaps visit San Polo for a piece of more authentic local life, where you can stroll past shops inside old homes and stop by a bàcaro (snack bar) to try Venetian specialties like cicheti (tapas-like small food dishes). With your vaporetto pass (good for 12 hours, although you won’t be in Venice that long), you can travel easily around the city by water taxi or waterbus, and perhaps take a ride across the iconic Grand Canal. When your time in Venice comes to an end, meet your host at Santa Lucia Station to board the train back to Rome, where your day trip concludes in the late evening.

Amazing Venice
Sep 2019
Venice was absolutly amazing but this is a very quick trip with lots of walking to trains and around Venice. This is not for those with mobility challenges. I had been in a car acident a few years ago and now have arthritus. You have to move fast to keep up with this tour and the roads and walkways are very uneven. My sister fell and fractured a rib! I would use caution in choosing this if you are challenged in anyway. It was a great tour but it pushed us to our limits.

Dear Nancy, thanks for reviewing the experience and for bringing up some aspects to the tour that need attention. We're actually as we speak in a process of updating our content materials online and on our brochures so that people with reduced mobility, physical impairments or in a wheelchair know exactly what to expect during our guided tours or day-trip to other cities from Rome. Meanwhile, thanks for sharing your story and give words of advice to the community. As for your sister's accident, we're so sorry to hear it, actually, we would like to know more about it and about how our staff handled the situation. Please contact us privately at the address feedbackteam@graylinerome.it at your earliest convenience. Best regards, the Gray Line I Love Rome Team

Viva Venice
Took the day tour to Venice from Rome Termini station was a smooth ride on the train both ways also had the option of taking the gondola ride along the canals which I did do (no trip to Venice is complete without it).Had a few hours of free time near piazza San Marco where you can do a bit of shopping or relax at a bar or cafe. Also enjoyed the vaparetto ride as well.

Venice
Venice is a beautiful city. While I appreciated having a guide to get us on the train and correct water taxis I was disappointed that there was little information given about the history.. we signed up for the English tour but also had Spanish speaking tourists so was multilingual for all instructions which made the talks very distracting and disjointed. All in all a nice trip.

Dear Rebecca, glad to hear that all in all your Venice trip from Rome has been a good way to see Venice in a day and make the most of your Roman stay. On a side note, we would like to remind you and the community that reads us that this kind of tour is an escorted tour but not a guided tour. Our tour leaders - whose prerogative is the ability to speak two or three languages very fluently - have the pleasure to assist you during the train journey and your discovery of the city, but they're not literally tour guides. That said, thanks for sharing your thoughts on TripAdvisor, your feedback has been taken into consideration. Best regards, the Gray Line I Love Rome Team

Venezia in a day
We thought it was an Independent tour initially but Rossella ruscio made the tour a wonderful experience in a day. Visits to key attractions including Gondola ride made it a memorable experience.
Recommend a 2-3 day tour to enjoy splendours of Venezia.

Dear Mandyamks, thank you for reaching out and leaving this wonderful review the same day of your tour which makes it a very vivid and candid report of your experience in Venice with our 'One-day Venice Tour with high-speed train' Rossella is a veteran on that tour and definitely knows how to treat her guests. She read your kind words and she's really proud. Thanks again and best regards, the Gray Line I Love Rome Team

Beautiful Venice
Jul 2019
My husband and I enjoyed this day trip to Venice. Rosella was our tour guide and was knowledgeable. The train ride to Venice was long, but the train was comfortable and clean. Rosella already told us that the Ferry ride would not be a pleasant experience and she was right. Venice was beautiful. The gondola ride was a must. Overall, we thought it was worth the money. For first-timers in Italy, I think going with a tour guide is the best way to go.

Amazing Trip
My family did the day trip to Venice and it was amazing! We enjoyed every minute of it and our tour guides were great and knowledgeable of the city. The tour guides provide you details and history of the city and also gives you several options and activities to do around Venice, I recommend the gondola ride, as well as some free time to do some exploring by yourself!
