City was interesting; tour was okay
Dec 2019 • Family
While the sites are interesting, the tour was only okay. The audio guide in the bus was often out of sync with the sites. The guide was knowledgeable and tried hard but somehow it just fell flat.

Dear customer, thank you for your honest feedback. Could you please tell us which bus you took ( on which day and if it was a double decker or a single-decker bus and by which company Kaiser Tour or Alter Fritz)? Our audio systems are run via GPS so the content is automatically paired with the route and stops the bus is heading to. We would like to check the audio system reflecting on you reference and apologize for any inconvenience that might have occured during your tour this day. Thank you and best wishes, Your City & Palace Tour Team Potsdam

A great way to see Potsdam
We were greeted at the station by reps from the tour company and although at first a little reluctant were persuaded by Manuel to book the tour and did not regret it.
By coincidence Manuel was also our guide for the tour and his detailed knowledge made the tour interesting and informative ( as well as his language skills!).
We had more than 2 hours of visits to the most important sites in the town all well explained and courteously guided.
Definitely a high point of our trip to Berlin and surrounding area and highly recommended.
Thanks Manuel !

Rude guide who let bus leave without us!
Nov 2019
Myself, my daughter, cousin and friend booked this for Nov 11. Guide spoke mainly German and was very rude to English speaking guests. I can speak German...rest of us can’t. He also said that GB has a rigid class system. At Sans Souci my friend and I went to the toilet...after it was pointed out by the guide. There was a queue and when we got back the bus had left without us, even though my cousin told the guide we weren’t back yet. We had to get another bus to take us back to the station and we missed the last hour of the tour. Couldn’t complain as all packed up...If I were you I’d avoid this company like the plague!

Not worth the money
Sep 2019 • Friends
We were greeted by a man selling tickets for the "Alter Fritz" tour just inside the train station at Potsdam HBF. We were told it was hop on/hop off. We bought the ticket for 15 euro with the welcome card discount. When we got on the bus we we realised it was a guided tour with a personal guide.

The guide spoke in German on the bus. We used ear phones to get the commentary on the sights we drove passed, but the commentary was not in snyc with where we were, so we didn't have a clue was was going on. I could also hear undertones of another language during mine, which was distracting, and it was hard to hear over the guide speaking.

There was 3 stops on the tour. We had 15-30 minutes at the stop to either look around ourselves or be shown around by the guide. Some of this part of the tour was in English, with a German explanation, and some parts were just in German.

We were also told just before we got off the bus at the second stop at Sanssouci Palace that we would return there after the tour had ended to leave people who wanted to look around more, before going on to drop people in town and at the train station. My friend and I had planned to return to this Palace, but the bus did not return there.

Overall, I probably wouldn't take this bus tour again. I think it's better to take an actual hop on/ hop off bus.

Potsdam tour of castles and gardens
Sep 2019 • Couples
Tour was good except that when we booked it we didn’t realise the guided tour with guide was only in German. That was not made clear on the website. Whilst the headphones on the bus had an English translation we felt that we missed out on some information that would have improved the tour experience.

What a marvellous town
May 2019 • Couples
We arrived at the rail station in Potsdam and looked at tourist bus options which consisted of either a hop on hop off tour or a three hour guided tour starting in 10 minutes. With our Berlin Visitors Card we got a discount and opted for the latter. Three enjoyable hours later we had discovered a city with immense character, has listened to an enjoyable English commentary through our headsets and had been guided around three palaces by an enthusiastic and seemingly knowledgeable guide. We will certainly be back to explore the many features we heard about but did not get to stop and see.

How to cover the main historic sights of Potsdam in 1 day
Mar 2019 • Couples
Berlin was bombed flat in during WW2, so what had been beautiful historic districts and architecture are rare sights.

How to get there: It takes under 1 hour by U55 UBahn/train - Potsdam, Alter Markt/Landtag station, to see royal residences and historic streetscapes. You can easily cover all of the "must see" places in 1 day with the bus tour.

Which bus tour to take:
A tour bus is the most effective way to see the area; public busses can be infrequent to the 3 palaces, which are in lesser-frequented areas.
The tour bus departs immediately in front of the train exit - in fact, you will probably be accosted by sales people representing the various tour operators.

Take an "Alter Fritz" bus tour (Imperial and Kaiser tours have terrible track records for English-language tours). Ask for the non-German language bus. If there is no English-language tour guide, they will still provide an audio guide and live English-language info at the stops.
Check the tour bus departure times before you leave for Potsdam - no need to wait for an hour.

You will visit 3 palaces from the outside only. On the return trip, you will have an opportunity and sufficient time to get off the bus and tour at least one of them - they stop here on the return trip. Our choice was Sans Souci - a small, rennaissance-style palace, and the most famous. If you have limited time, this is probably the one you should tour.

At Sans Souci, English-language tours are available. I am not sure why they segregate the English group from the German, as everyone gets the same audio guide (language based on channel), and the sombre stewards who usher you from room to room do not say even oone word.

To return to town, the public bus stop is immediately in front of the palace, and the sign indicates the wait time. Take the bus back to town with the Berlin Welcome Pass, and exit when you get to the open space at the end of the pedestrian mall.

Take a leisurely walk down the pedestrian mall. Stop for dinner - there are many restaurants. When you get to the end - you will see the church directly in front of you. We found great doner and kapob - just a one minute walk - at reasonable prices.

Then, take the tram that stops just past the church (when you are facing the church, head right to the tram stop ), again, using your Berlin Welcome Pass. Exit 5 minutes later when it crosses the train tracks overpass (before you reach the train station). You will be in front of a retail mall. Walk through the mall to the train station. Alternatively, you can stay on the bus one more stop and exit at the train station.

There are other things to do, before or after the bus tour, but their availability depends on the time of year that you visit, and your time. In addition to the many museums and parks, you may want to consider visiting:
Filmpark Babelsberg - stunt shows - only open AUGUST - NOVEMBER
Filmmuseum Potsdam
Weisse Flotte Potsdam - river cruise - closed from autumn until APRIL
St. Nikolaikirche Potsdam - we skipped this one, but it is along your route.

Excellent and informative tour
Mar 2019
We decided to take this tour as it was waiting outside the station; we were not disappointed. The tour guide was very interesting and extremely knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. We came away with a good understanding of the development of Potsdam and Frederick the Great and also, more recently the post war situation of Potsdam. I would thoroughly recommend this tour, it was good value for money and also gave a discount for Berlin card.
