About
During this private tour from Berlin, visit one of the first concentration camps established by Nazi Germany — Sachsenhausen. Learn about the events that led to the creation of this forced labour camp that imprisoned 200,000 people and murdered thousands. Today, the entire site serves as a memorial and a museum dedicated to the prisoners who lived and died there.

What to expect
  • Meet your guide at a centrally located meeting point in Berlin and board the train to the Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum in Oranienburg. More than 200,000 people were imprisoned here between 1936 and 1945. At first, the prisoners were primarily political opponents of the Nazi regime. However, people that were defined by the National Socialists as racially or biologically inferior were later included. By 1939, there were a large number of citizens from the occupied European states imprisoned here. Tens of thousands of people died of starvation, disease, forced labor, and mistreatment, or they were victims of the systematic extermination by the Schutzstaffel, otherwise known as the SS. Thousands of other prisoners died during the “death marches” that followed the evacuation of the camp in April of 1945. At that time, approximately 3,000 sick prisoners, along with the doctors and nurses who had stayed behind in the camp, were freed by Soviet and Polish soldiers. Not for the faint of heart, this tour features a visit to the punishment cells, gallows, gas chambers and burial pits located inside the prison. Hear stories of prisoner bravery as well as the chilling atrocities that took place at the camp — which now serves as a national memorial to the prisoners who lived and died here. The tour ends with a return train trip to Berlin.

I did the tour to the camp while my wife was shopping. My guide was Pip who was excellent and had a great ability to put the whole sobering experience into a historical perspective. I learned lots and would highly recommend this tour especially if you have an interest in Germany's dark past. John Dublin

Great walking tour
Nov 2019
The tour started with meeting out tour guide Sebastian at the train station. There were 13 in our group and he did an excellent job in keeping us altogether whilst changing trains and walking from the station to the site of the camp.
Sebastian gave us a very infomative and interesting talk to begin with, setting the scene and explaining the timeline of when and why things happened.
Our walk through the different parts of the camp were very thought provoking and everything was dealt with well.
All questions were answered and Sebastians knowledge was fabulous.
Thankfully we got the bus back to the train station and got the train back into Berlin.
It was a day I will never forget. Thank you Sebastian.

Great Walking Tour W/ Sarah
This tour was very powerful and informative. Thanks to a great guide Sarah was able to share anecdotes about prisoners in various areas of the camp. She well versed in German and WWII History and handled my plethora of questions very well. At the end of the tour she even gave suggested readings which was appreciated. The tour was great but Sarah really brought it to the next level. Highly recommend.

6 hour English Speaking tour with Sarah- Berlin walking tours
Jun 2019 • Friends
The 6 hour tour with Sarah was absolutely fantastic. Her knowledge and passion for German history was evident in her clear and thorough explanations of different parts of the camp and the stories she told about certain prisoners. I would highly recommend this company and Sarah as a tour guide if you come to Berlin!

A must do tour. Guide - Sebastian
May 2019 • Couples
I highly recommend this tour if you are interested in the inhumane misdoings of Nazi Germany and it's then poster-boy. The tour is dark and gloomy. Sebastian, our guide was professional, courteous and had immense knowledge about the historical site. Sebastian also enlightened us about the early modern history of Germany. Get a comfortable pair of shoes though!
