The monuments and alpine scenery of Salzburg's UNESCO World Heritage Site lie just over the border from Munich in Bavaria. This tour ensures you maximize your time with round-trip transport by train, a guided walking tour of the city, and plenty of free time for shopping and sightseeing.
What to Expect
Meet your guide and up to 15 people at Munich’s Central Train Station. Then travel aboard an air-conditioned train, enjoying views of the Bavarian Alps and Austrian countryside on a 2-hour journey to Salzburg.

On a 1.5-hour walking tour, listen to your guide’s comprehensive introduction to the city. Discover Old Town, a UNESCO-listed site; admire historic landmarks, such as the Domkirche Cathedral and the Hohensalzburg Fortress (Festung Hohensalzburg); and learn more about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was born in Salzburg, and The Sound of Music, which was filmed in and around the city.

After the tour, spend around three hours exploring independently. Stroll around Old Town’s medieval lanes and browse the shops for souvenirs, sample traditional Austrian cuisine with lunch at a local restaurant (own expense), visit Mirabell Palace, or climb the hilltop to take in the views from the castle.

Your tour ends back at the Munich train station.

Great family day out

The day trip to saltzburg is a long one but well worth the trip. The train trip is lovely and comfortable. Our guide Lucia P was fantastic, warm, welcoming, funny and knowledgeable. Lots of great things to see and explore once you get there..

Day trip from Munich

I did the Salzburg day trip on Thursday 10th January. It was great. Tom our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. It is a beautiful place especially with the place covered in snow. I would highly recommend it.

It’s a small town and if you plan it right you can do it all. If you’re into a more slow paced, moment capturing, experience then I’d say stay in town 1 night. I managed to even have a quick lunch in the main square... More
