Your private custom-made tour begins with pick-up from your central Nice hotel and a scenic drive through the Provence countryside to Avignon, on the banks of the Rhône River. With a personalized itinerary, perhaps opt to stop along the way and visit Provencal villages, take photos from the hilltops, or sample some traditional regional cuisine.
On arrival in Avignon, make your way to the city’s star attraction – the UNESCO-listed Pope's Palace. Follow your guide on a tour of the magnificent Gothic complex, and explore the both the Old Palace and the New Palace. Learn about Avignon’s importance as the medieval city of the Popes, marvel at Matteo Giovanetti’s exquisite frescos that adorn the chapel walls, and stand in awe before the Wardrobe Tower. Then, pay a visit to the Musée du Petit Palais, where the masterpieces on display include Botticelli’s ‘Virgin and Child’, and enjoy some free time to explore the palace grounds independently.
After a break for lunch (own expense), enjoy an optional tour of a Chateauneuf-du-Pape winery, where you can indulge in an expert-led tasting (own expense) of house wines or regional Rhone Valley wines, and perhaps purchase some of your favorites to take home with you.
After a full day exploring Avignon, choose to stay in the city for dinner, or drive back to Nice, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.
