Wine Day Trip from Paris to Champagne
From US$287,22
Overview
France’s famous bubbly comes from the Champagne wine region, an around 1.5-hour drive from Paris. On this tour, learn what separates a ‘Champagne’ from a ‘sparkling wine’ as you tour three different wineries; visit a prestigious Champagne house like Moet & Chandon, Mumm, or Veuve Clicquot; enjoy a gourmet Champagne lunch; and sample a variety of fine Champagnes, with an expert guide on-hand to teach you all about the winemaking process.
What to Expect
Your tour begins with an early morning pickup from your central Paris hotel. Traveling aboard an air-conditioned minivan, leave the city behind and set out on the around 1.5-hour journey to the Champagne region.

Along the way, tuck into croissants and pastries as your guide explains the difference between a true ‘Champagne’ and a sparkling wine, and gives you some background information on the region’s winemaking history and heritage.

The first stop of the day is at one of France’s most prestigious Champagne houses—Moët & Chandon, Mumm, or Veuve Clicquot (depending on availability). Enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the world-famous winery on a guided tour of the wine cellars and discover the secrets of the ‘Méthode Champenoise’. Finally, sample some of the renowned Champagnes, as your guide reveals the difference between a Blanc de Blancs and a Blanc de Noirs, and tells you how Champagne Rosé is produced.

Continue through the scenic vineyards of the Montagne de Reims, Cote des Blancs, and Vallée de la Marne regions, before arriving at the second winery of the day, a family-run Champagne estate. Meet the winemaker and take a stroll around the vineyard to see the different grapes used for Champagne making—chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier—and learn about the importance of ‘terroir’. Then, sit down to enjoy a delicious lunch of gourmet cuisine, paired with a selection of fine Champagnes.

After lunch, make a stop to see the historic Hautvillers Abbey, where the very first sparkling wine was produced by Benedictine Monk Dom Perignon over 300 years ago. Finally, visit the third winery of the day, where you’ll get to taste some rare and exclusive Champagnes and perhaps witness a traditional ‘sabrage’ (opening a Champagne bottle with a sword) or ‘dégorgement à la volée’ (popping and spraying the Champagne).

On return to Paris, your tour ends outside the Hôtel de Ville.

Hi, Graham. They do not guarantee where they go each time but usually includes at least one big name winery. Our trip included Moet & Chandon but not Veuve Clicquot.
