What to expect
  • Begin your walking tour in central Bordeaux. Meet your informative guide and set off to explore the elegant streets as you learn about the city’s history and culture. Your precise route may vary depending on the weather and number of people in your group, but your guide will showcase as many of the city’s landmarks as possible. Make your way to the magnificent Monument aux Girondins, a soaring fountain and column that celebrates the Girondists, a group of 18th-century, conservative National Assembly deputies executed in 1793 for their counter-revolutionary activities during the French Revolution. Crane your neck to see the winged Statue of Liberty that crowns the column, and then stroll along the pretty banks of the Garonne River. Soak up the river views and pause at the Place de la Bourse, one of Bordeaux’s most recognizable squares. Created by Louis XV’s chief architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel in the 18th century, this impressive expanse is home to the handsome Stock Exchange (Bourse), and a the beautiful fountain of the three graces. Continue to the Rue Sainte-Catherine, the traffic-free avenue that ranks as one of Europe’s longest pedestrianized thoroughfares. Saunter past the chic shops and restaurants that frame this street, and stop at the Place de la Comédie. Pose for photos in front of the Grand-Théâtre and discover how it was once the location of a Roman temple. Pose for photos outside the sweeping, columned portico of the Grand Théâtre, a stunning neoclassical building that has become a symbol of the city. As admire the perfectly proportioned façade, hear how the theater was completed in 1780 and stands as a monument to the wealth of Bordeaux's emerging bourgeoisie at the time. Finish your tour back at the start point and bid goodbye to your guide, who will be happy to offer tips if you wish to continue exploring Bordeaux independently.

OK
Oct 2021 • Solo
It was OK. The tour was advertised as English/French but about 2/3 of the group were French speaking and I’m assuming for this reason the guide did the whole tour in French. This was despite her knowing there were English speakers and her speaking English.

Would not recommend
Sep 2021
Would not recommend, at least with the guide we got. I do not wish the man ill, but if someone from the Bordeaux tourism office is paying attention, he's the man who took the afternoon group on Tuesday, Sept. 7. My French-born wife and daughter and I dropped out after 25 minutes---it just was too pedantic, boring and uninspired. What I'd wholeheartedly recommend instead: the hour-long tour of Bordeaux by tuktuk you can sign up for outside the tourism office. You see a lot more of this beautiful city that way than you can on foot, and our guide, Svetlana, was far more engaging and enthusiastic.

Sep 2020 • Friends
My friend and I booked an English tour. We showed up and it was in French. After the tour guide discussed with the office, it was decided the tour would run in both languages.

The group was over 10 people. The guide was difficult to hear and she would mostly speak French, only translating a sentence or two in English.

After 45 minutes, we were at the Place de la Bourse when the guide unexpectedly said I’ll be back and walked away. We were all left staring at one another wondering what happened.

We felt the tour was not informative, nor useful as we walked 500m and listened to the tour in French for 45 min. After the guide departed, my friend and I just separated from the group. We left to visit the Cité du Vin - wine museum.

I would not recommend this tour. Use your time in Bordeaux for other activities or book with another company.

Cultural Must-do
This was probably the best introduction I have had to a city, thanks to the passionate Bordeliase Bruno. Not only clearly knowledgeable in the history of the physical place, but also of its cultural heritage and how it informs the city and its inhabitants now and it's relationship with France and the world. Delivered bi-lingually, this tour was deftly managed and easy to partake in over the relatively flat landscape. Good questions going back and forth, along with excellent advice, such as the best place to buy Canelé - thanks Bruno!

Amazing walking tour

I was the only person who went on this tour, and my guide, Anne, was absolutely amazing. Lots of knowledge about all the key monuments throughout Bordeaux. We had a laugh too. Overall, a wonderful experience.

Disappointing tour
Sep 2019 • Couples
I was really hoping to see a lot of the old town of Bordeaux and many of the main attractions on this tour. Most of the churches, bridges and bell towers are all within a reasonable walking tour distance. Instead, our guide was 19 minutes late and then gave us a long discourse about one of the fountains. It was a very pretty fountain but not worthy, in my opinion, of half an hour out of the now 1 hour 50 minute tour. The guide did relate a lot of history about how Bordeaux came to be a city and had many maps detailing this and although this was very interesting I would have rather had a more thorough walk around the city. I would not really recommend this tour.

Walking Tour
Oct 2019
This was a bilingual walking tour since we took the tour in October. Our guide, Catharine, did a great job showing us around Bordeaux. She explained the history and culture very well. I would have preferred the tour in English, but it was the low season.

Not truly bilingual
Oct 2019
The tour was in French and English, but predominantly French. The guide gave "paragraphs" of information in French, then a 2 or 3 sentence summary in English. Fortunately there was a bilingual person near me who translated and explained and without his help I was quite lost. I stood for long periods of time listening to French with no idea what she was saying. It would have been much more worthwhile to pay more and get a fully English tour.
