- May King T0 contributionsVery impressive guided tour.Very impressive guided tour, where our phones could be used as an alternative to the handset, via the QR codes at each stage of the tour. Fascinating facts of history past, and relatice present. I love that children can be entertained throughout by the spotting of toy corgi's. I personally loved the addition of new languages to the translation pool, namely Cantonese and Mandarin. And I had a wonderful lunch experience too. Starting with the winter rum punch, followrd by the Signature Platter, I ended my lunch with a wonderful loose leaf tea. As one of the top 50 recommended speakers of tea in the world, the tea menu brought me a lot of joy, personally. The Gopaldhara TGBOP 2nd Flush Darjeeling was tremendous in taste and presentation. Tha k you for a joyful experience. Every member of staff were fabulous in the work that they did.Written 4 February 2025

The whole experience from start to end was fabulous, truly terrific and I loved every second! The hand held self guided tour was amazing, clear, interesting, full of great facts and again very easy to use and navigating the ships tour route was straightforward. The human guides dotted around were fantastic, friendly , polite and added to the overall experience. It was an absolute pleasure being on board and having the opportunity was such a treat, it put a smile on my face during my visit and continues to make me smile thinking back on the adventure. I wholeheartedly recommend getting “on board” with a visit down to Leith which by the way is easy to get to as it will not disappoint.Written 3 February 2025

You can also get the tram. You need to walk through the shopping centre to get to the ticket office. Extremely interesting visit.I was blown away by the size-a lot bigger than I expected and there were a few surprises such as the operating theatre and the amount of bars/ pubs the crew had onboard.I liked how the tour was layed out and it was very simple to follow. Lifts are available. The hand held self tour devices were very informative. Staff were friendly. I had a cream tea which was lovely but I agree with another reviewer, scone would taste better if it was warm. Definitely recommendWritten 29 January 2025

A visit to the Royal Yacht of the former Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip is a must when visiting Edinburgh. The Royal Yacht is a real highlight. On a total of 5 decks, visitors can marvel at a fully equipped bridge with navigation equipment, bedroom, bathroom, study and fully furnished ballroom with the Queen's cutlery, etc. You can also see Prince Philip's bedroom and study with the corresponding furniture. Of course, on the tour you pass numerous photos and paintings of the Queen and her Prince Consort, which also show other personalities such as Tony Blair, Prince Charles, etc. On the ship you can of course also see the bedrooms of sailors and other employees. Visitors can also take a look into the laundry with mangle and a treatment room with operating room. A look into the engine room rounds off the great visit. The black Bentley is also on site for viewing, as well as Prince Philip's dinghy. An entrance fee is also charged here. Severely disabled people do not receive a discount, even if they present an ID card. Only people accompanying severely handicapped people have free or reduced entry. However, some hotels and the youth hostel offer their guests a 20% discount voucher for this attraction. If you present this discount voucher, you will also receive a reduced entry price. A so-called "tea room" on the upper deck takes care of your physical well-being. There is a large window there with a wonderful view of the sea. The cafe serves delicious homemade coffee and cake as well as lunch. The prices are accordingly. Public transport (bus and tram) stops directly in the Ocean Terminal. This highlight is a "must" for every visitor to Edinburgh. When visiting the Royal Yacht Britannia, you should definitely plan several hours. Beautiful and well worth seeing!

It is fantastic to read that The Royal Yacht Britannia was a highlight of your visit to Edinburgh. It is wonderful that you enjoyed exploring our five decks, from the Bridge to the State Apartments, and the Crew’s Quarters too. We are pleased that you noticed the many photographs throughout the tour route which capture the Royal Family, distinguished guests, and crew of Royal Yachtsmen enjoying their time aboard Britannia. For the information of others, the Yacht is highly accessible with lifts and ramps to all our five decks, and all seats without ropes are there for you to use and enjoy your complimentary audio tour. We also offer a complimentary ticket to those acting in a carer capacity whilst visiting. How lovely that you visited the Royal Deck Tearoom during your visit. It is the perfect place to take in the beautiful views out across the Firth of Forth whilst treating yourself to our delicious sweet and savoury delights. It is kind of you to let others know that Britannia is a must-see attraction for others visiting Edinburgh. Thank you for you five-star rating.

When in Edinburgh, this is a must.
Even though it is an old boat, due to who owned and used it, it's definitely well worth a visit.
Located out of the city in Leith, about a 45min walk for those healthier people, or a 10min bus ride of others.
We went in September, and it was quieter than normal. No major influx of overseas visitors making the experience much more relaxed.
The tour itself takes around 1-2 hours if you work each area listening to the free handsets giving relevant info.
I'm not a big fan of the Royals, but I found it very interesting and got that fuzzy feeling of being on board the Queens floaty-boaty.
You can choose to have eats or drinks at the cafe, but there is normally a queue to enter, as seating is limited. We waited approx. 30mins, and rewarded ourselves with tea and scone - lovely jubbly!!
You can spend a fair bit here, but ours came to £20 for two very large scones, cream and jam, 1x tea and 1x large hot choc.

Thank you for visiting Britannia and for recommending us to others as a ‘must’ when visiting Edinburgh, we really appreciate it! Indeed, local buses 11, 22 and 35 travel to Ocean Terminal where Britannia is permanently berthed. As you say, we do recommend allowing around two hours to complete the tour, however as it is self-guided using our complimentary audio guide, you are free to explore the five decks at your own pace. We are delighted that you enjoyed a visit to our stunning Royal Deck Tea Room, sampling the delicious cakes, scones, soups and sandwiches, all freshly prepared on board in the original Royal Galley.

The Brittania experience is simply heartwarming and wonderful. Everything here is very personal and lovingly displayed. You get the feeling of getting very close to the Royal Family. The family photos in the hallways, the photos on the tables, fantastically real. The Tea Room is so wonderful. We would advise anyone who wants to make a stop in the Tea Room to buy one of the 10 o'clock tickets, then you end up in front of the Tea Room at just after 11 and also get a seat. Everyone who was later had to wait. The people there are all very nice, accommodating and helpful. We had a great experience.

We are delighted you had a truly heartwarming visit. The personal touches, like the family photos and lovingly displayed items, really do make it feel like you are getting a glimpse into the Royal Family’s life. It is wonderful to read that the staff from the Royal Deck Tearoom were courteous and helpful, adding to your overall great experience. After seeing the Royal Yacht Britannia featured on The Crown, it was a must see visit when I was next in Edinburgh. Buses go from Princes Street £2 each way per person) and soon the tram taking about 30mins. Entry is via the shopping centre and go to level 2. The audio tour is excellent and will take at least 2hrs. You can take photos of everything. The yacht feels very homily so easy to see why the Royal Family loved the ship. A home away from home. Don’t forget to have lunch or afternoon tea in the restaurant.

It is fantastic that you stepped on board The Royal Yacht Britannia to discover what life was like at sea on this former floating palace. It is kind of you to let others know that entry to Britannia is through our Visitor Centre, which is located on the second floor of Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre. Visitors are most welcome to take photographs throughout their tour, there are plenty of lovely photo opportunities onboard.

We were interested to see the Royal Yacht plus it gave us a good reason to ride into Edinburgh on our motorbikes from Moffat along the 701 which is a lovely scenic route. The parking is free at the Ocean Terminal, the blue car park is nearest the yacht and there is a surface car park which can accommodate smaller motorhomes with no height barrier or a large multi story where we parked our bikes. The shopping centre where you access the Royal Yacht from is pretty good with a reasonable selection of shops and some nice food options. We had lunch there afterwards at Wrap chic which do excellent veggie Indian wraps etc. The Royal Yacht visit isn’t cheap at £17 per head but it felt very good value and kept us wholly interested and entertained for 2 hours. It gave a good insight into how the yacht was used by the royal family and how much of a loss to them it must have been. There is a discount for currently serving members of the armed services and NHS staff. There doesn’t appear to be any discount for veterans which is a shame but I understand it operates as a charity and needs every bean it can get. The staff who were on duty were beyond polite, professional and generally excellent which added to the whole ambiance...it almost felt like you were a guest on the royal yacht when it was in service. The audio guide is very good and helps you view at your own pace. Highly recommended if you have a half day in Edinburgh. The Leith area has some nice cafes, restaurants if you have more time to spare.

Thank you for visiting The Royal Yacht Britannia and for your kind recommendation. We are delighted to learn that you had such an interesting experience aboard Britannia and that you found it to be such an informative insight into life on board for the Royal Family. As you mention, parking is available at Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre, where our Visitor Centre is located on the second floor. Parking in the Blue Car Park on Level E will bring you out closest to our Visitor Centre. A tour of Britannia can indeed be combined with a visit to the many shops and restaurants in Ocean Terminal. For the information of others, admission to Britannia is less than other top Edinburgh attractions and includes a complimentary audio guide as well as an Annual Pass which allows each visitor to return, free of charge, for up to a year. As you say, we do offer a discounted ticket to NHS workers, as well as serving members and veterans of the Armed Forces. These tickets can be purchased from our Visitor Centre upon arrival at Britannia, as we must see valid ID in order to issue these tickets.

Attached to Ocean Terminal it's easy to access either by public transport or car. Coming here on public transport from the city centre it should not take longer than 30 minutes. The entrance to Royal Yacht Britannia is on the 3rd level of the building and it's wheelchair / buggy friendly. Lifts are on both ends of the building, while elevators are just in the middle. Admission prices could be slightly different and cheaper if booked online in advance, so it could be worth checking and planning your visit ahead.
Staff is super friendly and always willing to help. All displayed information boards are in English but audio tour guides are available in many different languages. All information gives very good insight into life of the yacht's crew and explains in detail how it was used by the Royal Family. The whole tour could take anything between 2 and 3 hours. The entrance is on the top deck and the tour itself suggests to start from the top, but I would rather recommend doing the whole tour from the bottom finishing for a nice treat at the cafe on the top deck. Prices at the cafe are slightly higher than in Ocean Terminal but it's a nice treat to finish such a great trip.

Thank you for visiting Britannia and for giving us five stars! As you mention, Britannia is easily accessible by bus with numbers 11, 22 and 35 travelling from the city centre for £1.80 each way for adults (correct change needed or use contactless) and 90p for children (correct change needed). E-tickets for the buses can also be purchased by card via the Lothian Bus M-Tickets app. Indeed, Britannia is a highly accessible attraction, with lifts and ramps between each deck and a tour route wide enough for wheelchairs of up to 67cm wide. As you say, the tour is self-guided using our complimentary audio guide, available in a choice of 30 languages, this allows visitors to explore the five decks at their own pace, whilst learning about life on board for the Royal Family and dedicated crew of Royal Yachtsmen.

An interesting and very well organised tour, go round at your own pace following very welll laid out route. Can pause at any point to visit the cafe (wee bit pricey but good quality / portion sizes) or one of the many available toilets! The provision of hand held audio machines is good, just press the number to correspond with location you are at and good concise info comes on. The entrance from inside Ocean Terminal shopping centre is very convenient and easy, staff are really helpful. It's seems a very slick set up with good access.
Surprising that the Royal quarters are in places small and quite "homely", staff quarters also interesting with 12 bunks to some rooms but apparently better than most ships! Lovely views on clear day. Easy bus ride from Princes St stops right at entrance.

We are pleased that your tour was interesting and well organised with your free audio handset guiding you throughout the ship at your own pace. This is the closest to a royal palace most of us will ever see. The audio guide is extremely well done and the directions on the ship itself are very clear. The restaurant has good food at a decent price. The yacht is incredibly well maintained. Go see it!

The audio tour is a must (included in price) and is well paced. It is interesting and there is lots to see. You can also have a bite to eat on the yacht. The hierarchy is shocking and obvious throughout. For example, the Admiral had a self contained living quarters whereas petty officers had basics. You get to see royal bedrooms, entertainment rooms etc. My only criticism is there are far too many people and it gets annoying dancing around people in the way.

Thank you for touring The Royal Yacht Britannia. The ticket price does indeed include the use of an audio guide, which lets visitors uncover Britannia’s unique history at their own pace. While there is a contrast between the elegantly furnished State Apartments and the more confined Crew’s Quarters, whenever the Royal Yachtsmen return for their annual Yotties’ Week, they speak so fondly of their time on board.

My wife and I visited the Royal Yacht Britannia, and what a superb day we had. We got an early morning train into Edinburgh Waverley, and as it was such a nice day decided to walk to the Ocean Terminal, not realising how far away from the station that it was – three miles to be exact, although it seemed so much further. Anyway, we hadn’t booked, but I called two days before and spoke to a really nice member of staff that assured me that as an Armed Forces Veteran I would have no problems just turning up, and that I would get in at a much reduced rate, which all turned out to be perfectly true. We then spent almost three hours wandering around the yacht and the other exhibits. Everything is so well presented with lots of information and photos. We also had lunch in the on-board café, which was great and again such an experience – the food was wonderful and not as expensive as we thought that it would be. You are not under any time constraints within any part of the experience, and can wander around at your leisure. We also had a really interesting conflab with Roger, one of the staff on duty outside the café, and we set about putting the world to rights, which was a real blast – such a great person to talk to and a real credit to the experience. At the end of the tour we got the number 22 bus from across the road from the terminal back up to Princes Street, which was so much easier than the long walk down. I would thoroughly recommend this attraction to anyone that is any way interested in the Royal Family.
