Make your way to the York Dungeon and head inside with your ticket. As you cross the threshold, allow yourself to be transported back to York’s bygone era. Fantastic theatrical actors greet you at every turn, reenacting famous histories such at Guy Fawkes and his failed gunpowder plot and the tale of barbaric Eric Bloodaxe, the opportunistic Viking King of York who made a special art of fratricide.
As you make the 75-minute walk through the dungeons, experience highlights (or lowlights) of York’s 2,000-year history through exceptional stages and special effects. Rile at the smells and sights of the plague, witness haunted goings-on at the Golden Fleece Pub, and test your nerve as the subject of a live torture demonstration (voluntary, of course!). Learn about Witch Pricker at the site of her stake burning, and discover the absurdity of 18th century prosecution in a simulated trial. (Please see full list of attractions in the Itinerary below; subject to change)
End your visit with a solid understanding of York's horrible history from paranormal occurrences and oddities to the city’s most unhinged historical figures.
