Highlights
    What to Expect
Make your way to the York Dungeon and head inside with your ticket. As you cross the threshold, allow yourself to be transported back to York’s bygone era. Fantastic theatrical actors greet you at every turn, reenacting famous histories such at Guy Fawkes and his failed gunpowder plot and the tale of barbaric Eric Bloodaxe, the opportunistic Viking King of York who made a special art of fratricide.

As you make the 75-minute walk through the dungeons, experience highlights (or lowlights) of York’s 2,000-year history through exceptional stages and special effects. Rile at the smells and sights of the plague, witness haunted goings-on at the Golden Fleece Pub, and test your nerve as the subject of a live torture demonstration (voluntary, of course!). Learn about Witch Pricker at the site of her stake burning, and discover the absurdity of 18th century prosecution in a simulated trial. (Please see full list of attractions in the Itinerary below; subject to change)

End your visit with a solid understanding of York's horrible history from paranormal occurrences and oddities to the city’s most unhinged historical figures.

Amazing but also terrifying if you're a wimp like me. Well worth a visit. Probably wouldn't recommend for children under 10 unless they're tough.

Best activity of the trip. If you are going to York, go here. 5 stars, 10 out of 10 definitely. Warning: you get sprayed at some points!

Have just been. I can’t comment on the experience as a few minutes in my special needs child (who had complementary tickets from merlin) was terrified. She was shouted at to put her phone away, fair enough phones not allowed but she’s ten with special...More

You can just turn up but the queues may be long, as they only let so many in at a time. Best to book a slot of you can.

If your eleven year old scares easily and gets upset then probably not, but my kids would have loved it at that age.
