About
COVID-19 UPDATE: Our tours are open again! For your safety, we are capping our tours at a maximum of 6 participants! My team and I have been hosting food tours for 10 years and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the neighbourhood is the worst we've seen. But Kensington Market, like it's immigrant heritage, is full of survivors. Let's support them together! We may not be able to travel internationally, but still we'll travel: 1. Around the world, locally - we'll sample a variety of cuisine from various cultures in the multi-cultural enclave of Kensington Market, including a stop in Chinatown. 2. Through time - we'll trace the history of the market weaved through the stories of the stores we visit. 3. Through perspectives - we've got the insider's edge, from special foods made just for our group, to secret photo spots in the market. Plus, taste the famous Toronto Truffle (Toffle™), an exclusive dessert invented by us. IMPORTANT! Please send a message if you have any questions!

What to expect
  • Meet your guide and group, then venture into Kensington Market, a distinctively multicultural neighborhood in downtown Toronto. This area is one of the city’s oldest and most well-known regions and has been designated as a National Historic Site of Canada. Kensington Market evolved from a working-class Jewish market into a working-class bohemian market. With so many different immigrants settling here over the past century, there is now an ample variety of colors, sounds and flavors from all over the world. Witness the vintage shops, cafes, bakeries and bars, plus the plethora of bare brick walls that have been covered with stunning graffiti murals and street art. Visit several shops, bakeries and vendors on this unique tour and indulge in sweet and savory tastes from around the world. You'll even get to try a truly 'Canadian' dish that has been given a special twist for the tour. Between stops, learn about the history and culture of food in Toronto and find out the little-known secrets behind the food we eat every day. The series of tastings equals a hearty lunch.

Sample Food From 5 Countries On This Tour
Oct 2021
This is a lovely activity to do on a nice sunny day. They weren't kidding about being full by the end of the tour. We couldn't finished all of our food and had to take it to go. We were stuffed. There were five stops on our world food tour, essentially we sampled food from 5 different countries. I frequent Kensington Market often, yet these places were all new to me, which was great! I also met some nice new people on the tour which was a bonus.

I would recommend this tour. Plus, Odile (our guide) is very knowledgeable and friendly.

Odile was great. We learned stuff we didn’t know. Stumbled upon this by accident when I was looking for something else and decided to try this on a whim. Would go again.

A Wonderful Ontario Staycation Activity
We toured a number of diverse Kensington Market food stops (plus one just outside of the market). Lots of great food - make sure you go hungry. The guide - Damian - was great. Very personable and informative, including info on the history and art of the market.

Great way to explore!
Sep 2021
What a great way to spend a September afternoon! Learned about the history of Kensington Market and tasted our way around the world. Loved our guide Odile, who was friendly, professional knowledgeable about the market and the restaurants. This tour is definitely worth checking out. Top tip - don't eat breakfast if you're going to take this tour!

100% would do this tour again
We took the tour as an early gift for ourselves. We were a party of two and the tour ended up being a private one which worked out perfectly for us. Damian, our guide, found us in front of Moonbean cafe and we kicked off our tour early.

It was hilarious how awkward the three of us were at first but we eventually got in the groove. Damian was so friendly and informative. We hadn’t gone on an ‘outing’ since the start of the pandemic, so we really needed someone who was calm and welcoming, which Damian was. I also liked that he was a stickler for wearing a mask and being distanced at all times. It made us feel safe. We had gone thoroughly prepared - we were double vaxxed and double masked. We carried sanitizer and wipes to clean every surface we came near.

We learned so much about the area and Toronto’s history, some of which was a real revelation. But honestly the food made this tour. The selection of food was mind blowing. Everything we ate was tastier than the last. I loved that Damian gave us the history of the place and people that created the food we ate.

We chatted a lot throughout the tour which made the tour even more fun.

The best part of the tour was that we had just enough food - not so much that we couldn’t breathe and not so little that you feel like you got fleeced. It was the right amount and a wide array of types and cultures were represented.

Since we went in the morning on a weekday, the area was not that busy which made walking around much more pleasant. We also got lucky with the weather, a couple of drizzle spells aside we had bright sunshine and a cool wind during our walk.

The food at each place arrived super fast, even Damian was surprised. It meant our tour never felt overlong or tiring.

The tour ended near the streetcars so it’s easy to get around town after you’re done.

I would 100% do this tour again. Keep up the good work Tasty Tours.

Hot tip - book your tour directly from the Tasty Tours website, instead of a third party site. The cost turns out to be cheaper even with service fees and taxes.
