About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Jlgtaylor46730 contributionsGreat way to explore a the South ShoreExcellent tour, we visited Peggy's Cove and quaint fishing villages. Our tour guide Paul was very prompt, informative and professional. He communicated well prior to our tour with clear simple instructions. He kept us ahed of the crowded tour buses. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour.Written 21 September 2024
- Virginia20020 contributionsWonderful Tour & Excellent GuideWe did the 6 hour tour of Nova Scotia's South Shore tour & totally enjoyed it. Plus we learned a lot of history about the area. Our tour included stops at Peggy's Cove, Lunenburg and Mahone Bay. The 3 of us were on a cruise ship. We were met by Paul, our guide, at the port & were back in plenty of time before our ship was to depart. There were about 7 others who took the tour. We all had plenty of room in his van. I really recommend this tour.Written 15 September 2024
- Atravelfan0 contributions2 Great Tours With PaulWe had back 2 back cruises so had 2 stops in Halifax. We toured with Paul to the Annapolis Valley and also on the historic Halifax tour. We truly enjoyed our tours. Paul is very responsive to email or text or call and met us right across from the ship at Pier 22. We learned so much about Halifax and the surrounding area and its history as well as Titanic history as a bonus. The van was comfortable and the lunch stops were local restaurants and so good. The 2 winery stops in Annaoplis were so different ( one large and more formal and the other a family owned and run establishment with individual selections based on personal wine preferences) but we liked them both. You cant go wrong booking with Paul.Written 29 August 2024
- Storyteller3920900 contributionsBeautiful Vistas, Personal ServicePaul really knew the best places in the area to visit. He was happy to give me some extra time at Grand-Pré when I mentioned I’m Acadian. He took us to Halls Harbor at just the right time to walk on the sea bed while the tide was out. He also had some fun short videos about local history for us to watch while on the way. The first winery he took us to was so much fun and felt like a personal wine tour. Lucketts was also fun to visit. I liked the way Paul’s tour focused on seeing the beautiful landscape and on smaller venues that I wouldn’t have known about otherwise, as well as the main stops.Written 27 August 2024
- CAKEEFE0 contributionsAwesome tour!Paul was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history. A vault if information about Halifax. A must see tour. Highly recommendWritten 22 August 2024
- LadyLinda550 contributionsSemi-private tour to Peggy's Cove & LunenburgSeven ladies of a certain age took the Half Day Small Group tour when in Halifax on our Princess Cruise July 30, 2024. I booked this excursion independent of the ship. We made it back to port in plenty of time. Our guide Paul was a good driver, friendly and had plenty of information to share with us. We had stops to admire the views along the way to Lunenburg and back. We had a light lunch at the Salt Shaker Deli where the staff was very friendly and efficient. The best part of the tour was Paul beating the large tour buses to Peggy's Cove so we had time to visit before the crowds. He also played documentary videos during the ride where we learned new information. Before that we were not aware of a coal fire burning in the hull the Titanic prior to hitting the iceberg. Another about how Canada handled the diversion of airline flights in response to the September 11 attacks in 2001 in the U.S. and hosted thousands of passengers who were stranded until U.S. airspace was reopened.Written 7 August 2024
- K6956JXchristinem0 contributionsA wonderful opportunity to see the countryside in Nova ScotiaOur guide Paul was an expert on history, geography and had the ability to share facts and information in an interesting way. We were not rushed during the day, there were lots of photos opportunities. I learnt about Arcadian history, had a delicious lunch and a relaxing wine experience. The day was excellent , with videos while we were driving . I highly recommend this tour if you are interested in seeing Nova Scotian countryside, include the Bay of Fundy and its tides.Written 31 July 2024
- roberthT7199LY0 contributionsA Must Do Tour Whilst in HalifaxMy husband and I had scheduled two tours with Paul-this was the second. Paul really knows the best places to give guests a taste of the Annapolis Valley. The van he uses is also very comfortable. For the wineries, the highlight of the wineries was the 1365 Church Street Vineyard & Winery. We also had lots of great photo opportunities-including two nesting bald eagles. This tour is a 'Must Do' when in Halifax.Written 15 June 2024

- princebjb20160 contributionsCharming villages and amazing rocksThe South Shore tour was the final of the 3 tours I did with Paul (also did Annapolis Valley and Historic Halifax). Tour starts with a drive out to Peggy's Cove. Gorgeous rocks on a jurrasic looking shore with a charming small light house. From there went to Lunenburg which is a charming fishing village with many great places to eat and a rich history. Also went through Mahone Bay. Paul fills the day with historical facts and many recommendations. Had around 2 hours in Lunenburg on one's own which allowed time for a great lobster and clam chowder lunch (Salt Shaker) and seeing beautiful churches and homes. Highly recommend Paul McNeil for this tour and his others.Written 4 June 2024
- Compass659831031280 contributionsWine, Cheese, and a very kind guideAnnapolis Valley was the 1st of 3 tours a colleague and I did with Paul. Paul is highly professional, knowledgeable, and later would find out incredibly caring and kind. Started with the Bay of Fundy and then saw bald eagles, got delicious gelato at a place that was not yet opened but the owner opened when she saw Paul arriving, and then delicious wineries and cheese. At lunch, I noticed my phone was missing and Paul traced steps back, called repeatedly, and even took me to a couple of phone companies when it was obvious my phone was gone. Did not get to do the final part of the tour but Paul went almost 2 hours over trying to help me find and replace the phone. Never saw someone go so out of his way to help. Luckily I had booked his other 2 tours in coming days (see other reviews).Written 4 June 2024

- celestec5740 contributionsGreat tour of the highlights of HalifaxWhat an amazing tour and experience! Paul is thoughtful, considerate, and knowledgeable. He LOVES his city and its history and conveys it so that you leave loving his city as much as he. As he took us around he explained what we were seeing. Enough time to explore at our stops. And we stayed away from the crowds. Worth ever penny! Book early as he offers small group tours.Written 2 November 2023

Pauls' Halifax Titanic Historical Tour was fabulous! It is well worth the price you pay. Paul takes extra care to make sure his guests are comfortable and learn everything there is to know about his great city and Province. Paul has tremendous knowledge and interesting stories to share making the sights all the more meaningful. There is no way to experience Halifax in the same way on your own. My wife and I recommend using Paul for your tour.

1000% worth every penny
We love to see the sites, but a guided tour is so worth it because Paul gave us the back stories, the nuances and descriptions. Paul added photos and videos to support the tour, which made it even more interesting.
What i ver much love is his support for local, artisan shops and restaurants. Included in the tour were local stops at the Farmers Market, Fisherman’s Cove shops and the little restaurant. These are EXACTLY the places i love to visit and I loved supporting these hardworking folks.
Do this tour at the beginning of your stay. His tour gave us a much better appreciation of the city, and as we explored the city during our stay, we often said, “Remember what Paul said about that place?” 🤣

Paul picked our small cruise group from the ship and off we went. He is passionate about the history of Halifax and the links to Titanic and the Halifax Explosion. Paul provides details of this beautiful city that you probably wouldn't get on other tours. We visited 2 Titanic grave sites and the Monument dedicated to victims of the Explosion - all very moving. A stroll through Victoria Park to stretch our legs. We made the Citadel for the changing of the guard (impressive, Paul had the group standing in the best location!) A visit to Fisherman's Cove made my day as a local asked me "Do you come from away?" Great tour, if I ever make it back to Halifax I'll be sure to check in with Paul

After two cancellations, our New England/Atlantic Canada cruise finally came to pass. Early on in planning, I had booked Paul McNeil’s Halifax Titanic Historical Tour. It was refreshing that he required no deposit, so we were out no money as the 2+ years passed. I reconfirmed with Paul a couple of times and, finally, we were able to visit Halifax in October 2022. Unfortunately, the cruise line had a too-short port time for a city so steeped in history. I had no prior knowledge of Halifax, and didn’t know what to expect. After spending several hours with Paul, I was left longing for more time there. He tailored his tour to our needs and tried to fit in all he possibly could, while mindful of our ship’s departure time.
In the course of 25 cruises, we have taken many, many tours and Paul is at the top of our list of guides we’ve experienced. His knowledge of the city was obvious and his love for it became apparent in his dialogue. His occasional personal interjections added to our enjoyment.
My husband and I were very comfortable in the van and the large tablet mounted above the dash held many slides and videos that added to our understanding and enjoyment of the sights we viewed.
As a testament to the kind of person Paul is, I must tell a somewhat simplified tale of a personal incident. After ending the tour, standing in line to reboard the ship, I was onboard when I realized I was missing my small backpack. I phoned Paul’s cell and he said he’d head right back to the terminal. I was a bit panicked as, by that time, we were very close to all-aboard time. A conscientious young man on the ship’s security staff told me to stay put and he’d go to the terminal. He connected with Paul and retrieved my backpack. A bit later, Paul phoned me to see that I had my backpack and all was well. Paul went the extra mile, literally as well as figuratively!
Given the opportunity, I would book another tour with Paul McNeil in a heartbeat! I can’t recommend him highly enough!

This was our family’s first time in Halifax and Paul’s tour was an absolutely perfect introduction to Halifax, Dartmouth and Fisherman’s Cove. Paul is so knowledgeable about the city’s history and backs up his information with short video clips, photos and first hand stories. He also ensured we experienced the one of a kind venues like the 11am bells tolling at the Halifax Explosion Memorial and noon canon firing at The Citadel. If we are fortunate to return to Halifax in the summer, we’ll definitely be signing up to take his nature and winery. Paul, thank you for a fantastic day!!

Paul was very knowledgeable about Nova Scotia,Halifax and the history of the Titanic and the Halifax explosion.
I took an private 6 hour tour and felt I knew a great deal more about history after my day was over.
The immaculate car was equipped with masks, wipes and hand sanitizer. There was water and treats as well as maps and books!
Paul used a screen with photos and videos to relate the history he was explaining. This would be most helpful in the event that mobility was limited .
His timing was excellent-we were at the Noon day gun for the actual firing!
I would certainly recommend this tour for a wonderful day in Halifax!

I would highly recommend this tour if you want to learn about and see more of the city of Halifax Nova Scotia, our guide Paul was extremely knowledgeable. The tour takes you all around Halifax and with a visit to Dartmouth and Fisherman's Cove. Paul's photos and videos on a large screen provide more information and background on the places we passed or visited. A great tour thank you Paul.

Paul was an exceptional guide who took us to the historical sites that the tour buses go to, but he also drove us to less touristy historical sites that were just as interesting. My favorite thing (and surprise) is his van has a large monitor in front of the van. He used the technology a lot to enhance our knowledge with pictures or short documentaries. My second favorite thing was his van is specious and has a high roof. It was easy to get in and out of. Depending on when you make your reservation, your seat is assigned and you know it. First gets first row. Very simple and keeps things fair. Just a great experience!

This is a superb way to visit this wonderful seaport city of Halifax, NS. Paul was exceptional. He was entertaining, historically accurate and made Canadian history come to life for our small tour. More than just "seeing the sights," Paul took time to tell us why things happened as well as where they happened. He was a gracious and patient professional who treated everyone like his personal guest. His choice of locations, timing and use of supporting videos made it even easier to "see" inside special locations. The ride as very comfortable and we were able to stop and ask questions and take loss of great photographs (inside as well as outside on our tour. Paul's planning was like a well choreographed production, I was hesitant at first to take a "driving tour" but this trip was the very best.

I had taken this tour with Paul a few years earlier, but it was so great that I wanted to repeat it. We were on a cruise that went to Halifax twice. Once I booked the cruise, I contacted Paul as he is high demand - he is that good. Since the pandemic he has bought a new van that comfortably seats 10. He uses a large, mounted screen at the front of the van to augment what he is telling about the history of Halifax. And what rich history it is. Paul is an encyclopedia of knowledge with some humor thrown in. Always professional, his one goal is to make sure his guests are having their needs and expectations exceeded.
This tour includes many of the iconic and historical sites of Halifax, which are numerous, with a focus on the Halifax explosion, which is an unbelievable story, the role Halifax played in the Titanic tragedy, the Halifax Citadel Fortress and the changing of the guards, the public gardens and so much more. Lunch was in Fisherman's Village. The food was outstanding, and the village is very scenic and quaint. Best of all, he takes you to places that are so much better than the usual tourist attractions.
As mentioned, Paul is in high demand so book early. One of the best tours I have ever taken (twice), and I have traveled all over the world. Your will have no regrets if you use Paul. I will book him again, even for the same tour, if I ever return to Halifax.
