- helengJ4629JC0 contributionsA wonderful hike in beautiful natureAs experienced multiday hikers we booked this hike as a treat for my brother and his American girlfriend who are not hikers. We were all happy with the experience. The hiking is accessible for those who are not super fit and it is captivating enough to be interesting to seasoned hikers. The fynbos is stunning and the ups and downs are not too steep. We highly recommend getting to the peaks on the 2nd and 3rd days. The views are worth it! The path is well maintained and clearly marked. The accommodation is comfortable and if you take the catered option, the food is plentiful and delicious. Sarah looked after us really well so all we needed to do after a day on the mountain was relax. We also thoroughly enjoyed chatting to Ian who gave us a taster of his wealth of knowledge about the area. Next time we will definitely use a guide so we can have all our questions answered on the go. This is definitely a repeatable experience!Written 28 November 2024
- wild-wings0 contributionsScenic, easy, well managed slackpacking trailWe've done a few hiking trails and slackpacking trails over the years, and the Fynbos Trail stands out for two reasons: Firstly, it is very accessible, not too long, and relatively easy. A very doable slackpacking trail with manageable daily distances. Secondly, the accommodation is excellent. Farmhouse style cottages with proper bathrooms and decent beds. The second night even has a wood fired hot tub! The overnight accommodation is relatively upmarket without the high price tag. There is wifi as well. Trail manager Ian was very helpful and brought our bags to each overnight stop, and even put our meat into the fridge. He showed up every morning at the agreed time to brief us on the day's route. The route is well marked and well maintained, and goes through a nice variety of landscapes and vegetation types. The summits on day 2 and day 3 are both worth it and offer lovely views, but for those who are less fit and just want the shortest and easiest possible hike, it is possible to skip the summit and take the contour path around.Written 25 November 2024
- infoE9232MH0 contributionsFynbos selfcatering hikeAbsolutely beautiful and the best part was the extra loop we did - Swartkransberg on the 3rd day - stunning views and lots and lots of different flowers. The weather was ideal not to hot and mostly cool. The forests were also a highlight on the route and it was excellent marked. I would recommend this hike as a bucket list hikeWritten 21 November 2024
- onceuponagarden_land0 contributionsA must hike for allLovely balance between hiking and learning, bird watching and taking pictures. Guides are knowledgeable and support staff from the booking till the end was without hickups.Written 17 November 2024
- B5719GLwendyb0 contributionsFabulous Fynbos with FriendsA wonderful 3 days hiking through pristine fynbos. Our guide, Billy, was very knowledgeable and entertained us with many stories. The meals included Lasagna, Malva pudding, Lamb Potjje and home-made bread - the best of delicious home cooking. For us it was a treat not to have to think about meal prep, thanks Sara! Accommodation was comfortable and inviting. A highly recommended hike...thanks to Ian and Michelle for ensuring everything ran smoothly behind the scenes.Written 6 November 2024
- Sueg19530 contributionsBlissful days in the FynbosIt was a lovely mixture of beauty, learning and friendship. Our guide, Jacque, was a fountain of knowledge and added enormous value to the experience. We want to compliment Sarie and her catering which was excellent and Ian for his thoughtful and reliable logistical backup. We planted a tree for our grandchildren who are thrilled with the idea and who we hope will visit in the future.Written 28 October 2024

- Kathy L0 contributionsA natural paradiseThis is magical hike through a fynbos conservancy where you can experience pristine flora in at least five different habitats - my favourites were the Witvoetskloof and Baviaansfontein valleys plus stunning views from Grootberg and Swartkransberg peaks. Ian's hospitality and Sara's cuisine are excellent and cottages comfortable.Written 19 September 2024

- erasmus_jv580 contributionsCare for hikers with Celiac DiseaseHiking the Fynbos Trail was a glorious experience . We hiked with an extremely knowledgeable guide, who managed the group of 10 ladies with aplomb. Accommodations were well appointed and comfortable, but the highlight of this hike (other than the beautiful fynbos) was the extreme care taken to accommodate my Celiac Disease. Michelle and Sara ensured that all food was 'safe' for me to eat. I generally don't do any hikes that are catered due to my anxiety with regards to ingestion of the slightest bit of gluten. But after consultations with Michelle, who guided Sara I had a wonderful hike and felt genuinely cared for with regards to my extreme food allergy. I happily recommend this experience to anyone with any food allergies. I am confident you will be well cared for.Written 12 September 2024

- Louise D0 contributionsSpectacular Fynbos TrailI hiked the Fynbos trail with 9 friends last week and had the most fantastic time. The scenery was stunning, the fynbos absolutely beautiful and the overnight cottages homely and well equipped with the added luxury of a kolkol at the second cottage which was thoughtfully warmed up already for us on arrival at the end of the second day! We had a wonderful knowledgeable guide whose passion for the flora was infectious and Ian who manages the trail was so welcoming and helpful. A must do hike !Written 29 August 2024

This was an exceptional experience. Our group elected for a guided three day hike thru strandveld, forests and fynbos. Our guide was very knowledgeable and informative both on both species identification and the nature of plant life. The catering and accomodation was way beyond the expectations of hikers. I highly recommend the Fynbos Trail.

This slack-pack trail in the Grootbos Nature Reserve is one of the best. Surrounded by fantastic Fynbos the 3 day hike proved just the right length for our group of sixty somethings. Great food and accommodation but the highlight really is the knowledgeable guides that led us from start to finish.

We've had many friends who loved the Fynbos Trail and now we know why! We finally got a group together and made a booking. Loved it! Such a treat to explore the varied aspects of the different elements of Fynbos. Ian was a fantastic host and Billy as a guide is an absolute must! He brought so many things to our attention, especially the small things in the flora. Loved his warm, amusing, passionate style as he shared this place that is so close to his heart. Accommodation is great and worked well. We did the self-catering option as we love to include cooking together in our activities.
