Just a great place. We went there both nights in Kep. We went to a nearby seafood restaurant for lunch one day, but it just didn’t compare to The Magic Crab. Owner is so nice and hardworking local, his wife is the cook. Crab was cooked perfectly, large portions for the money. Highly recommend.

We loved it here. Staff so friendly and obliging, food great especially local fish and breakfasts and our room luxurious with a beautifully comfy bed. Kep is fascinating though not really a swimmers' beach so we really appreciated the gorgeous pool at Knai Bang Chatt. Balcony views over the bay are great, especially in early mornings and for sunset. Showers great. Rooms do not have Tvs but there's a library room well stocked with books and dvds.

We really enjoyed our outing at magic crab. The food was really great and the owner showed us how to properly eat the crab. The service was excellent and the atmosphere is great as you are right next to the sea overlooking the ocean. We highly recommend this place for some traditional cooked crab.

Beautiful food and service. Owned and operated by a lovely local couple. He does the drinks and she cooks. Food was beautiful, some of the best we’ve had in Cambodia. Cocktails were great too. A beautiful spot to chill, eat and watch the sun set,

Review of Sanssouci Kep

Quiet location - easy access if you have a motorbike or a car. Swimming pool was all good with a good design for small children. Green environment with also a lot of plants.

The bathroom was of a small design and the lighting inside wasn't sufficient. Included breakfast had a limited choice especially when it comes to healthy options (vegan/plant-based) - but this we see in most places in SE-Asia - at least there was a fruit option... We thought the staff could be slightly more attentive.

A beautiful place to stay that needs a bit of management.
Liked · A lovely setting with beautiful trees and flowers. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had an enormous room with a lovely balcony with a beautiful view and a hammock.
Disliked · There were lots of small things to improve as they were charging top prices. No mirror in the bedroom only in the outside bathroom which meant getting very hot when drying your hair. Only tissues no napkins in the restaurant. Many of the sun lounger cushions were split so the foam poked out. The basin in our room was cracked. These are all things that downgrade somewhere but are easily sorted. We were given vouchers for breakfast! Which no one looked at. We were told we couldn’t put things on the bill like drinks/ lunch but you could!

Review of Tara Lodge

We loved our stay at Tara Lodge. Jim and Vireak have created a wonderfully peaceful environment and it definitely lived up to the name 'Haven of Peace'. The breakfasts were amazing and freshly made to order every day, with a different freshly squeezed fruit juice. The staff all work very hard. We love a bit of bird watching and it was a great place for that. The pool was really inviting and the perfect temperature, it's described as a salt water pool but it didn't feel or taste at all salty (in a good way).
Jim and Vireak were very helpful in suggesting things to do during our stay and also helping with advice for the next part of our trip and helping arrange onward travel. We particularly appreciate the efforts to reduce plastic usage, it was a shock during our time in SE Asia the overuse of plastic everywhere we went. The lodge are doing everything they can to reduce this. Every hotel we stayed in during our travels gave us 2 small bottles of water every day, which isn't enough to get by so you still end up having to buy more plastic bottles. At Tara Lodge they provide you with a jug and have a free filtered water machine in reception that you can refill as much as you like. As a result of this our time in Kep was the only place that we didn't buy a single bottle of water. It was very noticeable the different this made. I wish other hotels would make this simple change.

The most luxury and private resort i’ve have stayed at Kep. The room was very decent, tidy, cleaned, and especially the facilities and amenities . It’s amazing for couples like us. We felt so comfortable right from the start since we first met with receptionist. They were so friendly and warmly welcome. The food was so good, I recommend crab cake and smoked salmon as for your lunch. The swimming pool is also a good space to relax and enjoy the fresh air with a large green grass garden. Next time I’ll try to stay at least 2-3 days. It’s worth the price to stay there.

My friend and I had a lovely evening in this restaurant. My top-quality crabs were a good size ( unlike those in à some neighboring restaurants) and super fresh. My friend’s barbecued fish fillet was excellent as well and a generous portion too.
The young owner is very friendly and attentive and speaks very good English.
The small restaurant has a pleasant decor and tables directly next to the sea - we wished we had got there earlier to enjoy Kep’s beautiful sunset.
My piña colada was very good too.
In a nutshell, this is by far the best restaurant we have eaten at out of 4 days in Kep and I recommend it wholeheartedly. It deserves to be successful!
And by the way, the new owner tells me he has only been in charge for the past three months so please disregard the sometimes very poor reviews this place got way back in 2019 or earlier.

There is (as already described in other reviews) a pleasant easy walk around Kep National Park if you stay on the nicely provided concrete foot path - which would take a couple of hours and is gentle and relaxing with some nice forest scenery.
However, there are opportunities to get off the concrete path and head into the "interior" .... this is a much more interesting and enjoyable hike for those who like a bit more of a challenge, have a bit more time on their hands and a good set of legs and lungs !
I did such a hike (solo) which took about 4.5 hours, covered 10km and took a bit of effort but was thoroughly enjoyable as a half day hike !!
I started off at the main entrance gate (behind Verandah Resort) and headed up the concrete path & past the Led Zep cafe (take a photo of the park trail map posted there to have with you for guidance).
I've attached a photo of the map so the following description makes some sense!
I stopped at a couple of view points on the way, including the viewing tower, at each of which there are lovely views down and over to the coast.
After about 4km on the concrete path you reach a ranger station next to the "Little Pond" (Waypoint 5 on the map) and that's where you head off into the interior via the path marked as "Jungle Path" (Waypoint 18 on the map) - this is where the fun begins !
This marks the start of a challenging section through the trees taking about 1 to 1.5 hours heading up to the highest point on the trail "Phnom Kep" (Waypoint 9 on the map) - the trail is very steep for long sections but fortunately there are ropes fixed which you use to haul yourself up with - the trail is a bit overgrown in places but that adds to the challenge - this is the hot and sticky section!
When you get to the top you'll come across a few stone cairns (rock piles) and a yellow sign telling you the altitude of 286m for Phnom Kep (that's how high you've climbed!).
From here you head over a short distance to the "Little Buddha" statue (Waypoint 8 on the map) and have a bit of a breather looking at the statue ... which is indeed quite little !
I then took the path to "Sunset Rock" (Waypoint 7 on the map) which had some very steep downwards sections at times - when you arrive here the trees suddenly open up and you get a wide ranging stunning view over the coast - it's a good idea to have a sit down, grab your drink and admire the view for a while!
From Sunset Rock I headed down the path towards & then past the "Antennae" and on to the "Nuns Centre" (Waypoint 6 on the map) which is a small temple. From there I continued down the same path until I reached a Buddha statue in a pagoda structure, where a swift right turn takes you down a switchback path past the rope park and out onto the road and the sunlight !! I then continued up the Bopha Prasidh Road back to the main park entrance, where I started from, and then wandered on up to the Led Zep cafe for some well deserved drinks and a rest admiring the views.
This was the end of a pleasant half day hike - a bit of a leg stretcher which tested the old lungs at times, but with many pleasant view points amid the forested park.
Couple of words of advice - wear closed shoes (full hiking boots not needed!) with a bit of grip, take a couple of litres of water with you, use bug spray if you get easily bitten and take your time on the steep 'ups' and 'downs' sections!
I also downloaded, and would recommend for this hike, the MAPS.ME app and its Cambodia map which had a detailed map of the park trails and made it easier to follow the park map photo (it also helped get me back to the right path when I took a wrong turn at the top of the trail !).
I've posted this detailed description of the hike I enjoyed to make known that there is more to the Kep National Park for walkers/hikers than the easy concrete footpath trail - head into the interior on some of the forest trails and you will have a more interesting and enjoyable hiking experience ... it's a shame I only had one day available for Kep National Park as I would have liked to go back over a couple of days and try out all of the other interior trails - maybe next time!!
My day in Kep National Park was one of the highlights of my trip to Cambodia - it was a pleasant surprise to get a nice hike in surrounded by lovely forest which once I got in to the 'interior' sections I had pretty much to myself.
I recommend to try it out when you're in Kep if you have a spare half day - if you've only a few hours then the paved track is also worth a wander for some nice views and quiet time with nature.

We were lucky enough to spend 5 nights at Samanea Resort and we really enjoyed our time and all the facilities offered here ...
We had a triple room (doubles were all booked!) set in large gardens, which was very spacious and comfortable with a separate room as a seating/TV area, a large King bedroom and an indoor bathroom with an outdoor shower/bath area - all were comfortably furnished, nice decor and all amenities provided were of good quality. There was also a deck at the room entrance which was a nice place to sit, read and enjoy the ambience of the extensive gardens.
The onsite restaurant/bar was very good - the daily breakfast was excellent with a good variety of choices, and we had dinner on a couple of nights which was also excellent.
The location on its own private beach and only a 5 minute Tuk Tuk ride from Kep Beach and Crab Market (which the resort happily organize whenever you want it) is very convenient.
The staff were really very good and with their friendly and welcoming approach provided everything you could expect - top class and a credit to the resort. Jonathon, the Hotel Director, was very helpful and friendly and clearly runs the property at a very high level - congrats!
The grounds, beach, pier and pool made the resort more than special - lovely to wander around, enjoy and watch the world go by .... sunset over the beach also memorable; the spa got a thumbs up from my wife!
In summary Samanea is an excellent choice when staying in Kep - you get top class facilities, a lovely setting, great dining, friendly and competent staff and a great place to relax and enjoy your holiday! Highly recommended ....
