I am glad that this restaurant has closed down and that the new restaurant which has taken over the premises in Cape Quarter is awesome and they are doing things right.

The food is amazing. Everything is fresh and they have the most amazing oven. It makes the pizza on a very nice crust. The owners are welcoming. We saw live music that was Devine.
We were very surprised about the quality of service and food. We had excellent starters, great pizza and pasta. Best calamaris ever, soft and juicy. Can only recommend the place. The whole family was happy.
After waiting an hour for our pizza we spoke to the manager/owner. Food came shortly thereafter. Upon leaving this manager/owner taunted is about our experience as we left. Suggesting we were lying about our wait time. We will not be back and highly suggest others...do not visit this place.More
Amazing. Pizza were done perfectly , We went twice to have more. The Desert a chocolate pizza was amazing and should be shared as it is big.
This feedback is very honest and it is addressed to the owner of the place. Mr. owner, please take a sit and read it. Dear sir. Today I was in your restaurant with my wife, as part of our honey moon trip in Cape Town....Initially, we were going to Osteria Tarantino, which is the #5 of TripAdvisor (today). Unfortunately, they were fully booked when I got to the place. I don’t know why, their staff has recommended us your restaurant; Al Forno. We accepted their recommendation. As a Italian descendent I was very disappointed to see how you and (apparently) your parter owner run the place. My wife wanted to have a white sauce pasta, and was oriented to the waitress to order the Ricota Canelone. For our surprise, the past arrived exactly how she didn’t want; with red tomato sauce! Also, the Calenone was disappointing. The dough was “mushy” like a microwaveable frozen food. Also tasteless inside. I my case I couldn’t find anything special in the Menu, as I had only 9 options of pasta... So, to avoid any mistake, I ordered a Linguine all a Bolognese. I was good/OK. Anyway, I got SAD when I saw the “Parmesan” cheese. An unacceptable industrialized grazed cheese, the one we buy in super market. Mr. Owner, come on! I saw you speaking Italian with your partner! You are Italian... this is a shame to our people. Well... The place it self seems to be improvised. For example: A black board with no tips written; a computer installed in a normal table in the middle of the room; a expresso machine on a chair; the food Menu in a format of a table tent and not a real menu... and many other DETAILS, that destroy the consumer experience. Details is everything in a restaurant. Your restaurant was 20/30% full. And will continue like that if you guys don’t change. The name is good, the neighborhood is good, and so on... As an owner, you and your partner should stand up and put the cellphone away (like we saw you guys), and reinvent the place. Thanks and good luck.More
Ordered the clams pasta and glass of wine. Clams were not fresh making the whole dish marginal at best. Thought parmesian cheese would make the pasta edible. The fake contents delivered was not parmesian cheese --awful. It made the whole dish worst. Disappointing food and...owners need a trip to Italy to taste parmesian cheese.More
Visited the restaurant on 2 occasions and had a great experience each time. Friendly management and staff, Italian chef brings his own experience and flavours to the food. Best to book in advance.
Tasteless, Slow, Meagre. What less can one ask for? We ate dinner on a Saturday night at this restaurant, having heard that a new Italian man had taken over the restaurant a few months ago. However the meal was completely disappointing. My wife's "Filleto red...wine redacti" sounded so good but was utterly tasteless. There was no flavour whatsoever to the platefull of red sauce surrounding the piece of fillet steak. She complained it needed salt - or anything - to give it some flavour. And the rest of the plate was even more disappointing - one minute half of a baby potato, done the hasselback way, plus a small shoot of broccoli, some tomato pieces and lots of lettuce leaves. In other words, mainly meagre decoration. My choice of "Principessa pizza" comprised some asparagus, truffle and caramelised oinion on an oval base. It sounded good but tasted like dry cardboard. This was probably the first time in my life I have ever left some pizza behind, without even wanting to take it home in a doggy bag. The restaurant seems to be trying to be both a casual pasta/pizzeria and an unmarket restaurant using truffles and special cheeses, etc. but in the end is neither. Tasteless food, incorporating expensive ingrediants, is the result. And the service is appallingly slow. The restaurant was only half full but we had to wait almost 45 minutes for our food. We spent the time watching as patrons who arrived before us, gradually got served their food and wondered how far down the list we were for orders yet to be started. Heaven knows what time one would recieve one's food if the restaurant were actually full. If one really wants tasteless food with meagre helpings of vegetables, where the service is painfully slow, this is the restaurant to choose. But if one wants good food, value for money and reasnable service, go somewhere else. Or wait until there is another change in ownership.More
We had a lovely evening at Alforno’s!! Would definitely recommend it as a must eat pizza. The service was great friendly and not pushy. Food came quickly as well. Having lived a few years in Italy myself I will happily say this was true italian...pizza and italian hospitality.More
I will say that I have had a good meal at this restaurant before. However this time we were with kids and it was not good. Firstly the pizza oven wasnt working. We were there for pizzas, and were not told this when we arrived....There was one single waiter servicing the whole restaurant and the poor guy was running aroung like a headless chicken. The kitchen was equally understaffed which resulted in an really long wait. There was no bread offered in the interim. The pasta was way too al dente. The other food nothing special. Despite owners being present, they did not seem to be helping out and overall it was a poor experience.More
Nice restaurant situated at the rear of the Cape Quarter complex. We arrived for dinner and fancied some pasta, just as well as we were informed there were no pizzas available as the oven was broken. Restaurant only had one other customer so atmosphere a...little lacking (was a wet Tuesday evening) and one other family joined us. We chose a nice bottle of red wine (good value too) and two pasta dishes which arrived promptly. They were huge, well cooked and tasty and served by a happy waitress. We enjoyed our visit and would recommend it for pasta but make sure the pizza oven is working if that's what the kids want ;-) Nice place.More
We dined here after it was recommended by a nearby restaurant that was booked. We ordered salad, grilled calamari and pasta for appetizer, all yummy. My son’s vegetarian pizza was delicious and chicken calabrese was straightforward and served with avacado and great mozzarella with tomato....The owner was really helpful when we needed to arrange for transportation back to our hotel. It was a good meal with fair prices.More
